Biosketch:

Raised in Mexico City,Dr.Tellez-Giron received her medical degree, with honors, at the National University of Mexico (UNAM).

Moved to the United States 13 years ago to be with her family and to continue her education, and ever since has been working very actively with the Latino/a community of Madison, WI.

Has participated in multiple volunteer activities, at the Madison Community Health Center, Rape Crisis Center and La Clinica de los Campesinos, among others.

She completed the University of Wisconsin Family Medicine Residency program and soon after graduation joined the Faculty of same program as an assistant professor, and is currently working at the Wingra Clinic where more than 90% of her patients speak only Spanish.

Dr.Tellez- Giron received the public health award for community advocacy for her work with the Latina community and the Wisconsin Well Women program in 2000. The AIDS Network Executive Director«««s Award for Outstanding Community HIV/AIDS Service in 2004 and the Faculty Excellence Award for Community Service also in 2004.

Madison Magazine appointed She as one of the most popular persons in Madison on their November 2001 issue.

She obtained a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to do Community based education for Breast Cancer early detection with the Latino/a Community in 2001, and due to the success of this first grant she has gotten renewals to this grant yearly ever since.

Also received a grant from the South west Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to try to enhance access to health care trough Community supported education for bilingual medical personnel, and recently, also through this organization received a second grant to improve compliance on patients with chronic problems.

Dr.Tellez-Giron has also presented cultural rounds to Health professionals working with the Latino/a Community at various organizations and hospitals.

She is also the chair of the Latino Health Council in Madison.
