Teaching & Clinical Physician Assistant - PA Program

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Family Medicine is seeking dynamic applicants for a full-time academic faculty position for its Physician Assistant (PA) Program. Candidates must have a Master's degree; a doctoral degree is preferred. The successful candidate will be a certified physician assistant with current licensure or eligibility for licensure within Wisconsin. The candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong leadership skills, collaborative style to complement a team environment, and a minimum of two years clinical practice. PA teaching experience is strongly preferred.

As a member of the PA Program faculty, this individual's role will include:

  • Providing support to the Director of Clinical Education and participation on the Clinical Year Team in developing, planning and executing all clinical year activities, including Clinical Year Orientation, End of Rotation activities, clinical site visits, student monitoring and assessment, preceptorship development and maintenance, and continuous self-assessment of clinical year policies, processes and activities
  • Coordinating/teaching and evaluating effectiveness of assigned courses in the didactic curriculum, particularly related to the Professional Seminar and Capstone series and to the Patient Evaluation courses (initial and advanced History and Physical Examination courses). Instructional participation may also include lecturing in other PA courses, e.g. Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Clinical Prevention and Community Practice, Clinical Pharmacology and/or Diagnostic Methods. Assigned instructional duties will be based upon candidate expertise, interests and the needs of the Program.
  • Playing a lead role in promoting the program in research and scholarship, directing students through the development, implementation and presentation of Capstone projects, involvement in the implementation and oversight of the MPAS completion degree being developed for UW-Madison PA Program alumni, and supporting faculty/staff with regard to faculty development and scholarly activity
  • Participation in the coordination, instruction, and evaluation of students' clinical skills and professionalism, as well as academic advising/mentoring (required of all program faculty)
  • Active participation in general program administration to include admissions, faculty meetings, curriculum design/development/revision, professional development, grant initiatives, and other duties as assigned (required of all program faculty)
  • Representation on PA Program, DFM, and/or SMPH, as appropriate and as needed (required of all program faculty)
  • Initiating and maintaining scholarly productivity (required of all program faculty)
  • Pursuing active clinical practice (minimum 20%)
  • Active participation in state/national PA associations and professional activities (strongly encouraged of all faculty)
