Project: Cultural Competency
Fellow: Folake Atewologun
Mentor: Cindy Haq

Fellow Bio:

Project Description:

My project involves learning about the different variables associated with increasing the number of minority students in medical school. Along with this I am also interested in views of cultural competency as it pertains to the medical school. I am accomplishing my goals through my position on the admissions committee and also as chairperson of Cross-Cultural Interest Group.

Project Goals:

My goal is to be able to write to the EPC about what I believe can be done to improve the number of minority med students and provide a more cultural competent curriculum.

Accomplishments:

Next week I will be holding a discussion with Dr. Gloria Johnson Powell as the guest speaker I hope to learn from other students what their thoughts are on this issue and incorporate it into my proposal to the EPC.

Challenges and Solutions:

The challenges I have encountered revolve around administration. Although I have offered to actively help in recruitment I have yet to be contacted. The challenge I anticipate is the receptivity of the EPC to my proposals.

Next Steps:
