Fellow Bio:

Project Description:

Tara had started this project by initiating and building a child abuse and neglect protocol. She also introduced it into St. Mary's protocol for the Emergency Room. Heather and I took it from there and sent out a survey of doctors serving St.Mary's and Meriter. We asked them if they had used it and their response. We also asked questions regarding how they viewed the protocol. Our responses confirmed the thought that the protocol is long. We are now researching ways to narrow it down. I am working on it to make it applicable and user friendly for clinics and family physicians in out-lying communities.

Project Goals:

  • Learn more about abuse
  • Develop speaking skills
  • Narrow down the protocol

Accomplishments:

Since my last report, we have sent out the survey and received it back and analyzed it for pertinent feedback.

Challenges and Solutions:

My challenges have been in trying to coordinate a group. I have decided to find out what I want from this project and work towards that goal. I have talked to my mentor. His advice helped me focus my goals.

The biggest challenge is making the time to personally visit physicians or talk to them. I have addressed this by talking to Dr. Beasley and Dr. Schwartzstein and having the benefit of their insight.

Next Steps:
Locus Project Objectives and Key Tasks Target Date for Completion
Contact physicians in the community and discuss with them ideas that they would like to see for a trimmer protocol. December 2002
