- Establish meaningful relationships with nursing home patients (Manor Care)
- Enhance interviewing skills, physician exam skills, rapport
- Learn about issues surrounding elderly and disabled care
Describe the Problem
- Lacking a relationship between med. students and nursing care patients
- Medical students need to learn to communicate about the needs of many different communities
- Benefit both med. students and nursing care residents
- Reciprocity model
- Helper therapy principle (helping another person is therapeutic to the helper)
- Enhancing communication, rapport, interview, and physical exam skills among med. students
- Allowing the opportunity for story telling, advising, and developing special relationships with patients
Project Goals & Tasks
- Gathering info from fellow classmates (Does the interest exist to volunteer in nursing care?)
- Contacting the interested groups and faculty members (Dr. Brown and Dr. Siebert)
- Survey the med. students for time commitments
- Find out what factors would affect the med. studentsą decisions
