Fellow Bio:
Project Description:
The MEDIC clinics of University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health serve as the only resource for thousands of patients who cannot afford healthcare. We provide acute care at our 6 clinics, however we are unable to get our patients plugged into a consistant care system. In an effort to provide extended services, we have worked out minor partnerships with a limited number of hospitals and clinics. I hope to reinforce these relationships, as well as establish new ones so that the community as a whole shares in the responsiblity of caring for these patients. Additionally in an attempt to increase community awareness and solidify partnerships with area organizations, I hope to begin a publicity campaign for financial support and resources. Project Goals:I hope to establish a partnership for MEDIC with the hospitals to provide extended care. After that is in place we can look to the other providers so they can do their share. I hope to increase community awareness by targeting local doctors to broaden our volunteer physician base. I also hope to target area businesses to generate support. I also hope to have an article in the spring alumni newsletter complete with an opportunity for donations. Accomplishments:
Students to get things done. We are in class most of the time that community members are available at the office. Setting deadlines and sending multiple reminders has alleviated many problems. Next Steps:
I need to talk to my mentor to see if he can set up a story with Channel 3. Last update: December 26, 2001 |
