I grew up in Houston, Texas. I attended the High School for the Health Professions and did my undergraduate work at the University of Houston. I moved to Madison in 1996 where I found a job working with people with disabilities. Later that year, I accepted a Peace Corps assignment in Tanzania where I taught Biology for two years at Kiraeni Girls' Secondary School. I returned to Houston, then moved back to Madison a year later where I again worked with people with developmental disabilities. Since high school I have had a number of volunteer jobs, many in hospitals, one in a day care for children affected by HIV/AIDS and, currently, one sewing quilts for a nursing home.
