LOCUS Stipend Information

The LOCUS program offers stipends annually to facilitate LOCUS students' participation in community-based projects, programs and/or research.

The maximum total dollar amount available for each student stipend is $1,600. This stipend is designed to offset your expenses and allow you concentrated time to work on your community service project. The total amount available for 2008 stipends is $4,800. These monies have been provided for you by the UW-SMPH Department of Family Medicine.

Criteria for LOCUS Project Funding

LOCUS Stipend Applications will be evaluated based on the following:

  1. Use of the Logic Model
    1. Inputs (information, resources, ideas, stakeholders)
    2. Activities (essence of the program, components, linkages, partners, team members)
    3. Short term outcomes (communications, evaluation plans, program design)
    4. Final outcomes (final program evaluation measures, how will program be sustained)
  2. The ability to answer the question and prove: "Is there evidence that the proposed project has the potential to address an existing community health need?"
  3. The ability to answer the question and prove: "Does the project provide opportunities for leadership skill development?"
  4. The ability to answer the question and prove: "Is the project sustainable after the funding period?"
  5. The ability to answer the question and prove: "Are outcomes assessments built into the program?"
  6. The ability to answer the question and prove: "Are there plans for the sharing and dissemination of findings?"

  • ALL LOCUS FELLOWS WHO RECEIVE FUNDING WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A BRIEF SUMMARY IN WRITING
  • (and) POST THE SUMMARY ON THE LOCUS WEB SITE.
  • THE SUMMARY SHOULD DETAIL YOUR PROGRESS AND HOW THE FUNDS WERE USED.
  • THIS REPORT IS DUE NO LATER THAN ONE MONTH AFTER THE END OF THE FUNDING PERIOD.

THE FINAL PAYMENT (30%) OF YOUR STIPEND AWARD WILL BE PROCESSED AS SOON AS YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL REQUIRED TASKS STIPULATED IN YOUR STIPEND AGREEMENT LETTER.
