Project: NRG (Energy)Fellow: Effie Siomos Mentor: Dr. Alida Evans Agency: Dayton ARC house
Fellow Bio: With the help of Alida Evans, we were able to organize a weekly activity group for the women of ARC house, a halfway house for women. We were able to sign up various med students and activity leaders in the community to run an activity on Satruday morning. Activities included yoga, kickboxing, kickball, and Scottish dancing. Volunteers could come as often or little as they wanted, and times were scheduled in advance. The program ran from March-June of 2004 Project Goals:

The women agreed it was an enjoyable event and their kids were also able to participate. Challenges and Solutions:Sometimes, only 2 women signed up for an activity and once the ladies changed their minds a few minutes before the activity started. I had to explain to the instructor and the ladies that the class would be cancelled, but this has only happened once. Next Steps:
Resource Needs: Outlined above
Last update: January 5, 2005 Other Comments:Just looking for a 1st or 2nd year to take over. Can definitely talk to any students about opportunities in working with the ARC house women.
