Fellow: Megan Stumm

Team Members: Rebecca Horne

Fellow Bio:
Megan is from Eau Claire and graduated from UW-Madison. She has volunteered at MCHC and the UW Children's Hospital. She also spent a summer in rural Kentucky shadowing physicians and volunteering in various clinics, hospitals and home health delivery. Megan is interested in women's health and would like to be involved in a project that focuses on providing health services to abused women.

Project Description:

Rebecca and I are working on a survey that will provide us with a needs assessment for the establishment of a MEDIC clinic at the Domestic Abuse shelter in Madison. I plan on applying for several grants to fund the clinic if we find that there is established need for the clinic.

Project Goals:

Help provide access to healthcare for women at the Domestic Abuse shelter in Madison.

Provide an opportunity for medical students to work with patients who have been victims of domestic abuse.

Develop leadership skills in the area of providing healthcare to the underserved.

Challenges and Solutions:

There are many people who are interested in starting a clinic at the domestic abuse shelter, but little organized cooperation towards that goal. I have tried to talk with everyone interested and make sure that the needs of the people at the shelter will be met with the new clinic, that there will be funds, and that there will be enough volunteers to staff the clinic.

Accomplishments:

Rebecca and I have designed our survey and are working on getting IRB approval. I have arranged to have physicians from Dean healthcare volunteer at the clinic if it gets underway and gotten the forms for them to become affiliated with the university for that purpose. I have a short list of grants to apply for.
