Acknowledgements
The LOCUS program is funded through a predoctoral training grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, by the Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), and the Department of Family Medicine. We wish to recognize and thank the following individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of the LOCUS program:
- Medical students and LOCUS pioneers KJ Williams, Steve Murphy, Dan Schaefer who worked with Cindy Haq to initiate the LOCUS program in 1997.
- Michelle Grosch who helped to conceptualize and nurture the program from birth through age 5!
- Carrie Tobin, who joined as key support staff in April 2007, and continues to keep the program running smoothly.
- John Frey, Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine, who has provided support from conception and throughout development.
- Rev. Jim Davis who helped establish the program on the principles of active learning and recognized the importance of good relationships among fellows and mentors.
- Dr. Alan Schwartzstein, who serves as a mentor, has enhanced LOCUS through partnership with the Dane County Medical Society.
- Dr. Richard Aronson and Denise Carty RN for their partnership and for serving as liaisons from the State of Wisconsin, Division of Health.
- Don Carufel-Wert who joined the LOCUS faculty in 2000 bringing leadership experience from community health work in Milwaukee and the Madison Community Health Center.
- Todd Eisenberg, a LOCUS fellow, who worked with faculty and staff to refine the LOCUS syllabus in 2002.
- 2006 stipends are supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation Wayne and Marion Brown Family Practice Fund.
