Insight Meditation / Vipassana

http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=91305&cmd=tc

Insight Meditation, sometimes called vipassana, is a simple practice of opening to the truth of our lives by investigating the ever-changing flow of mind and body. A large part of this investigation involves relating to each moment of experience with acceptance, kindness and non-judgmental awareness. This helps us see through the patterns of conditioning in our minds and hearts that lead to a sense of separateness and dissatisfaction with life. During the 2011 Winter Feast for the Soul, we’ll use exercises in the Buddha’s Discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness to help us investigate our minds, hearts and bodies and find the peace and joy with life that is possible. We’ll begin with the basics of how to meditate and will gradually move to more advanced practices. Each day we’ll have a 40 minute period of Insight Meditation practice, beginning with a 10-15 minute talk and followed by a period of silent meditation.
