Who Should I Call in Human Resources

Nancy Henderson

Have you ever had a human resources or payroll and benefits question and weren't sure who to contact at DFM Human Resources (HR)? DFM Human Resources is staffed by Dennis Feggestad, Connie Thompson, Nancy Henderson, Sandy Rindy, and Colleen Nash.

Dennis Feggestad is responsible for managing all HR-related activities in the DFM and supervising the HR Staff. He is involved in department strategic planning, serves on several HR-related committees, and develops and implements policies and procedures. In addition, he manages academic staff recruitment, academic staff rate/title change requests, FTE percent changes, leave of absence and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests for all staff, faculty reappointment letters, academic staff salary notification letters, tuition reimbursement requests, annual academic staff evaluations, annual DFM Recognition Awards, exit interviews for departing academic staff, the Worker Compensation reporting process and labor relations issues.

Connie Thompson is responsible for faculty recruitment activities, including assisting with the development and submission of the faculty recruitment request, developing advertising materials, coordinating the interview process, developing appointment letters, processing moving expense reimbursements, and hospital credentialing. In addition, she manages resident appointment agreements and serves as the contact person for changes in resident status that require changes in agreements. Connie also manages the Volunteer Faculty appointment process and the Statewide Faculty Leadership/Orientation Program.

Nancy Henderson is responsible for classified and LTE recruitment activities. She analyzes submitted position descriptions and recommends classification, submits positions for posting, obtains and provides recruitment lists for supervisors, submits requests for hiring approval to Medical School Human Resources, and processes the appointment paperwork for new classified hires. In addition she is responsible for developing advertising materials, Current Opportunity Bulletin announcements, and related exam materials. Nancy also coordinates the submission of updated position descriptions, new classified employee probationary reports, annual classified evaluations, reclassification requests for classified employees, exit interviews for departing classified employees, and provides back-up to the HR Manager on labor relations issues.

Sandy Rindy is responsible for payroll and benefit activities for the Department. This includes processing the monthly faculty, academic staff, and resident payrolls along with the bi-weekly classified/LTE payrolls. She also serves as the Benefits Specialist for the Department, processes benefit applications and responds to questions from all employees. Sandy also prepares the payroll appointment paperwork for all new employees, as well as payroll forms for percent changes, leaves of absence, rate/title changes and employee resignations and counsels employees regarding their benefits in relation to these payroll transactions. She is also responsible for management and further development of the department human resources/payroll database.

Colleen Nash is responsible for student recruitment and bi-weekly student payrolls, faculty and academic staff leave accounting, updating, editing, and maintaining data for the DFM Volunteer Faculty Database, and providing backup for bi-weekly classified payrolls and other payroll and HR activities.

Although the above descriptions are not all inclusive, we hope it helps you determine who in HR to contact when you have a question. The HR staff is working to have more information on DFM recruitments, links to related sites, frequently requested forms, and policies and procedures available to employees through the DFM website over the next several months. If you have comments or suggestions, please e-mail Dennis Feggestad (dennis.feggestad@fammed.wisc.edu) or Nancy Henderson (nancy.henderson@ fammed.wisc.edu).
