Old Email Addresses

As many of you know, each clinic used to have a distinct email address (i.e. jdoe@north1.fammed.wisc.edu). It has been several years since we converted to email addresses ending only in @fammed.wisc.edu. Because many of the spam emails we receive are sent to addresses in the old format, we have stopped supporting these old names as of January 31, 2006. Email addresses that end in the following are no longer active:

@appleton.fammed.wisc.edu

@belville.fammed.wisc.edu

@dfmp.fammed.wisc.edu

@dfmp1.fammed.wisc.edu

@eauclair.fammed.wisc.edu

@north1.fammed.wisc.edu

@smtp.fammed.wisc.edu

@verona.fammed.wisc.edu

@wausau.fammed.wisc.edu

@wingra.fammed.wisc.edu

Since January 31, no bounce-back messages were going out when the "bad" addresses were used. ITS has recently changed that so you will get bounce-back messages.

What do you need to do?
  1. If you are receiving email to an address in an old format, please notify your correspondents of your correct email address in the following format: firstname.lastname@fammed.wisc.edu.

  2. Please ensure that you are using correct emails when you communicate within our Department. Correct emails can be found on the Department of Family Medicine website Directory or by using the (Novell) LDAP address book in GroupWise.

  3. It will help tremendously for GroupWise email users to delete any of the old domain names from their Frequent Contacts address book. Follow Groupwise instructions to remove the old names from your GroupWise Frequent Contacts address book.
