More than forty people attended the first-ever Department of Family Medicine Statewide Grand Rounds. Residents, faculty and staff from Wausau, Fox Valley, Eau Claire, Baraboo, Alumni Hall, along with the Madison area residency clinics of Wingra, Northeast, Belleville and Verona, participated via our newly updated video-conferencing equipment.

The inaugural DFM Statewide Grand Rounds program was hosted by Eau Claire/Augusta. Bill Cayley, MD gave an excellent presentation on Hepatitis B and the impact of not having insurance coverage. He presented a case study, along with an assessment from the perspective of medical, contextual and personal issues. He also provided an overview of Hepatitis B, including screening and treatment options. Additionally, from a contextual and personal perspective, he discussed the scope and implications of being an uninsured patient, and the social challenges when having a diagnosis of Hepatitis B. Physician and patient resources were also provided. Dr. Cayley followed his presentation with a group discussion, with participation from our various locations around the state.

Evaluations of the presentation and format were excellent, with 100% of those responding to a web-based survey stating that they would attend another DFM Statewide Grand Rounds.

Dr. Cayley's presentation can be viewed on the following site with Real Media Player: http://www.uwex.edu/ics/stream/fammed/. The Powerpoint presentation, "Hepatitis B - Medical, Personal and Contextual Issues," is also available at: http://www.fmdrl.org/1260.

Many thanks to Dr. Cayley for his wonderful presentation and facilitation of a statewide discussion, the ITS staff, Matt Fleming, Kathy McCain, and Janet Reschke for their technical assistance, and all the residents, faculty and staff from around the state who participated in our very first DFM Statewide Grand Rounds!
