   Three DFM Faculty Visit China in Continuation of Exchange Program

   In August, three Department of Family Medicine (DFM) faculty—Valerie Gilchrist, MD; Sandra Kamnetz, MD; and Kenneth Kushner, PhD—traveled to China as part of an ongoing exchange program between the DFM, Columbia University, and Beijing's FuXing Hospital and its affiliated Yuetan Community Health Services Center.

   The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) held its 2009 Renner/Hansen awards ceremony on September 23 at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.

   Home & Career Dovetail for New Fox Valley Residency Director

   When Dr. Last learned last year that the Racine program was closing, he considered numerous other job opportunities, including hospitalist practice. But after visiting the Fox Valley residency and meeting the people there, he knew he had found the perfect fit.

   PA Program Now Formally a Master’s Program

   After nearly two years of hard work, careful planning, and curricular redesign, the University of Wisconsin Physician Assistant (PA) Program is now formally a master’s degree program.

   DFM Faculty Member Co-Authors Women’s Health Book; Nine DFM Residents Contribute Chapters

   Department of Family Medicine Associate Professor Sarina Schrager, MD, is the co-author of a recently published clinical textbook, The ACP Handbook of Women's Health.

   DFM Partners with State Agencies to Identify Patterns of Influenza and Rotavirus in Wisconsin

   Since 1994, the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) has collaborated with the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health (WDPH) to collect and report data on viral diseases.

   Three DFM Faculty Receive Nearly $2.5 Million in NIH Career Development Awards

   The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) congratulates three faculty—Marlon Mundt, PhD; Nancy Pandhi, MD, MPH; and Aleksandra Zgierska, MD, PhD—who recently received a total of $2,415,725 in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

   Monona Clinic Wins 2009 Davis Award for “No-Wait” Rooming Project

   The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) extends warm congratulations to the UW Health Monona Clinic, the winner of the 2009 James E. Davis Quality Improvement Award.

   Northeast Clinic Turns Flood Disaster into Workflow Improvement Opportunity

   Clinic Manager Deb Sanftleben first got news of the flood from her facilities manager, who had been notified right away by Joanne Novak. "His words were, and I quote, 'Boss, this is bad,'" she laughed.
