EpicCare is Coming

The EpicCare Electronic Health Record (EHR) will soon be installed in all UW Medical Foundation (UWMF) and UW Department of Family Medicine (DFM) clinics. Last summer both Meadowood and Monona Clinics implemented this system. After these implementations, it was decided that a gradual rollout approach across the system would help the clinics in being better prepared for the changes that an EHR system brings.

In preparation for EpicCare several committees and workgroups have been formed to assist with the implementation in various ways. Clinicians are needed to help develop templates. This is an extremely important task and department leadership is expecting that all DFM clinicians be involved in at least some part of template development. Derek Hubbard, MD and Beth Potter, MD have agreed to lead the DFM template efforts. To volunteer for template development, please contact
Dave Kunstman, MD, Mary Rowe, MD or Paul Smith, MD.

Deb Sanftleben, Clinic Manager at Northeast Family Medical Center and Sue Kaletka, MPH, DFM Director of Clinical Operations, are representing the DFM residency clinics on a UWMF/DFM workgroup that is assessing clinic readiness and looking at operational issues within clinic sites. The DFM has also established its own internal EpicCare workgroup that will be addressing issues specifically for the residency sites. Anyone who has questions or issues that they would like the workgroup to discuss should contact Sue Kaletka, MPH or any of the residency clinic managers.

Watch for further information about clinic assessments and demonstrations of the EpicCare system.
