John J. Frey, MD was a visiting professor at Hanoi Medical University in Vietnam from December 12 through 18. Hanoi Medical University has one of the three programs in Family Medicine at Vietnamese medical schools, and graduated their first class of 8 residents in December. Dr. Frey conferred with the faculty of the program, the Dean's office staff, and lectured to the next resident class for two days. Dr. Frey also reviewed three books and a film for the British Journal of General Practice.


Rich Roberts, MD, JD attended his final meeting of the NCQA Standards Committee in Washington, DC as well as a Board meeting of the AAFP Foundation in Leawood, KS and a Board meeting of the National Patient Safety Foundation in Washington, DC. Additionally, he served as a Wisconsin delegate to the AMA Interim meeting in Atlanta, GA in December.


Paul D. Smith, MD was elected to the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors.


Jon Temte, MD, PhD has been appointed to the AAFP Commission on Clinical Policy and Research.


John Beasley, MD, Byron Crouse, MD and Jeffrey Nicholson, MED, PA-C are all part of the newly created Wisconsin Council on Medical Education chaired by Carl Getto, MD, senior vice president of medical affairs, UW Hospital and Clinics. The Council will lead a statewide effort to collect data and encourage research that will assist in monitoring and predicting the number of physicians that will be needed in Wisconsin by type of practice and location. In addition, the Council will recommend policies and practices that encourage physicians to enter and remain in practice in Wisconsin. One of the key components of this policy will be to help protect Wisconsin's favorable medical malpractice environment.
