Bruce Barrett, MD, PhD presented "Using Benefit Harm Trade-offs to Estimate Sufficiently Important Difference: the Case of the Common Cold" at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Generalist Physician Faculty Scholars Program Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA. Additionally, Dr. Barrett was invited to talk at the Population Health Weekly Seminar at the Department of Population Health at the UW in Madison; his topic was "Assessing Clinical Significance for Common Cold." At Grand Rounds at Freeport Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL, Dr. Barrett presented "Herbal Medicine: An Update on Evidence" on January 11.


John Beasley, MD presented "Lifestyle, Drugs and Surgery in the Obese Patient: An Evidence-based Approach" at Devine Savior Hospital in Portage, WI on January 17 and gave a lecture entitled "What is Primary Care Research and Why Would Anybody Bother?" at Mercy Health System in Janesville, WI on January 18.


Byron J. Crouse, MD, FAAFP presented "Wisconsin Rural Health: A Needs Assessment" at the Marshfield Clinic Grand Rounds in December.


John J. Frey, MD was a visiting professor at the University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine on January 11 as one of the presenters to their senior faculty group on "Career Transitions and Adult Development."


Lucille Marchand, MD, BSN presented a pre-conference workshop with Jack Coulehan, MD and Patrick Clary, MD entitled "Healing Words: A Poetry Workshop for Clinicians" at the Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association in New Orleans, LA on January 20-23. She also presented a workshop "Collage: A Tool for Self-expression, Healing and Growth for Health Professionals, Patients and Families" as well as a research poster on "Building Successful Coalitions for Promoting Advance Directives." Additionally, Dr. Marchand was creator and organizer of the "Healing Space", a four day venue that included meditation, tai chi, space for art and writing, humanities workshops and video viewings, and an evening poetry reading.


Rich Roberts, MD, JD attended the annual meeting of the Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association (IPMA) in San Antonio, Texas. He serves on the IPMA Board and presented a plenary entitled "Physician Liability: Why Risk Management Can Suit You."


Patricia Tellez-Giron, MD presented "Community Based Health Education: Providing Quality Health Education for Patients and Families of Diverse Communities" at the 25th Annual STFM Conference on Families and Health in February at Amelia Island, Florida.
