The WINGS Project
The Research Committee, in conjunction with the Research Fellowship Program, held the next monthly statewide Department of Family Medicine Research Forum on the first Tuesday of February from 12:30-1:30 PM. Alex Adams, MD, PhD shared her research on the WINGS (Wisconsin Nutrition and Growth Study) project she is conducting with Wisconsin American Indian tribes from three reservations. Her research team is examining childhood obesity and links to diet and exercise with the hope of working with the American Indian communities to develop Tribal health promotion and obesity prevention programs.
Each research forum will have a major research presentation with an open discussion following each session. This forum is planned as an exchange of ideas that could be based on a completed research project or a discussion at the idea stage of a research topic. The presentations will be video conferenced statewide. All DFM faculty, residents, fellows and staff are invited to attend and participate in the discussion. Faculty and staff statewide are invited to present their research.
The schedule for the next two months is as follows. All talks are on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:30-1:30 PM in the Mendota Room at 1100 Delaplaine Ct. and can be viewed via video conference.
- March 1, 2005, Jon Temte MD, PhD presents "Public Health Surveillance."
- April 5, 2005, Richard Brown MD presents "Filling the Quality Chasm: Systematic Behavioral Prevention."
Please contact Mary Beth Plane, PhD for further information about how to present your research at the forum at mbplane@fammed.wisc.edu or 608-263-5846.
