Randy Brown, MD, Bruce M. and Zuelsdorff M. received a grant for "Research on the Intersection of Drug Use and Criminal Justice Consequences in the African American Population." The National Institute on Drug Abuse/National Institutes of Health Administrative Supplement is providing funding for two years for Dr. Brown to expand on research he is conducting as part of his NIH/NIDA K23 Career Development Award. This award focuses on participant characteristics, case management conditions, and their interactions and how these factors might act to influence substance misuse treatment completion and ongoing drug use among drug court participants.


Leah Algier, MD, a second-year resident at the Department of Family Medicine in Madison, received a University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation Innovations Grant to institute restaurant style pagers in the Northeast Family Medicine Clinic to alert patients. Not only is this a more confidential way to notify patients, but allows for more freedom and will be especially beneficial for deaf and hard of hearing patients.


Dennis Breen, MD along with Len Deprey from the Eau Claire Family Practice Residency Program in Eau Claire, WI were among the 2006 Applicants Selected for the AAFP/F Wyeth Immunization Awards. Their Award Track is Outstanding Enhancement Rates, and the Award Amount is $2,500.


Marlon Mundt, MA, MS received a grant from the Transdisciplinary Studies in Health and Society Working Group in the amount of $750 to study determinants of alcohol-related harm in college students.
