Mailing List Archives
Did you know that the Department of Family Medicine has over 160 active mailing lists that can be found online at http://lists.fammed.wisc.edu? The mailing lists are used for a variety of purposes and are a great way for work groups to communicate. The website has many useful features, including:
- Viewing who is on a list
- Viewing the list archives
- Subscribing to a list
- Posting a message to a list
- Requesting a new list
One of the the more useful features of the mailing list website is the archives. Every time a message is posted to the list, the message is archived on the website. To view the archives, you must be a member of the list and you may have to login to the website using your email address and your "DFM Password". After you have logged in:
- Click on "Your Subscriptions" in the top menu bar
- Select a list in the main window
- Click on "Archive" in the left menu
By default, archives are displayed for the current month, and in "thread,"(messages that are responses to other messages are grouped together). To view the archives by date, click on "Chronological". You can view archives for other months by clicking on the two digit month in the calendar on the screen.
The archives can also be searched using the search box, which performs a simple search for the current month. To perform more advanced searching, like searching multiple months or searching on a specific field like subject or sender, click on "Advanced Search".
Have you lost a document that was posted to a mailing list? Don't worry, you can find it in the archives!
