New DFM Committee Structure

David Dadds, MS

We are pleased to announce some new and exciting changes to the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine's committee organizational structure as we work together through our transformational journey. We want to emphasize that these changes are still in many ways in transition. It will take several months to accomplish this transition and it will also take time for people to settle into their new roles. Please see the following link to connect to the new committee organizational chart for the DFM which was approved by the Executive Council:

It is important to note that the committee structure has been designed in response to the strategic planning process which identified a key issue of shared governance. This committee structure is intended to create accountability and more formal communication links from the DFM statewide committees to our Executive Council, to support leadership development and improve shared decision-making. The intent is to populate these committees with faculty and staff to further develop leaders in the UW DFM through involvement in these important areas, as well as provide broad based opportunities for input into the decision making process.

For background on the rationale for this newly revised DFM statewide committee structure, please visit our internal website for information on our DFM strategic plan, with a focus to align our educational, research, and clinical care missions, at:

This plan was developed by a strategic planning group, members of Department leadership, and the Executive Council beginning in the fall of 2004 and approved by the Executive Council in May 2005. Entitled "A Transformational Journey", it is a blueprint for working together for developing the DFM into the future, helps to focus Departmental priorities over the next 12-18 months, and will also include the DFM values once they are completed.
