John Beasley, MD has been appointed to the National Advisory Committee for the NIDCR (National Institute of Dental and Cranio-facial Research) sponsored Dental PBRNs (Practice Based Research Network). The group will be ongoing, and will review the success of the NIDCR PBRN development projects.
Craig Gjerde, PhD received a Certificate of Recognition from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine for completion of term as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee.
Jon Temte, MD, PhD will be attending the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices Meeting on October 26 and 27 as an AAFP liaison.
Lee Vogel, MD was one of three featured speakers at the 5th Annual Women's Fund Luncheon held September 9, at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton. The luncheon raises money and awards grants to programs that enhance the lives of women and girls. The event was taped and was televised on the local Time-Warner Cable channel in September. Georgiana Wilton, MA, PhD, Patricia Cameron, MS and Raina Zwadzich were part of the staff of the Family Empowerment Network. They were presented with a signed proclamation from Governor Doyle when he designated September 9, 2005 as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day in Wisconsin. Dignitaries included Senator Carol Roessler who also serves on the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (SCAODA). The proclamation highlights the enormous public health issue in Wisconsin stemming from alcohol use during pregnancy, and recognized the work of the Family Empowerment Network in addressing the needs of children and families affected for the past 12 years. Others in attendance included staff of the Bureau of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, SCAODA members, family members, and Department of Family Medicine staff including Rich Brown, MD, MPH, Kristi Obmascher, Lyric Dold, MA, MS and Stacey Balousek.
