McGovern-Tracy Scholars Award Dinner

On Tuesday, June 5, the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine held the Seventh Annual McGovern-Tracy Scholars Award Dinner at the beautiful Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, WI. This event was made possible through an endowment from Mrs. Isabel McGovern Kerr to the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine to establish scholarships rewarding UW School of Medicine and Public Health Students and residents in the Department of Family Medicine network. This scholarship also honors Michele Tracy, a second year UW medical student tragically killed in Malawi, Africa while participating in an education service program in July 1999.

The students and residents honored exemplify the values of community service and leadership. Please join us in congratulating the following five medical students and three residents:

The following awards were also presented at the dinner:

The Jan Ashe Memorial Award Scholarship
This award, in memory of Jan Ashe from Northeast clinic, is presented by the Department Of Family Medicine to a student graduating from the School ofRadiologic Technology who displays both technical skills along with an ability to communicate with patients. The recipient exudes a cooperative team spirit with co-workers and is chosen for their caring empathetic approach to people and especially families. This year's award winner:

The Robert F. and Irma K. Korbitz Scholarship Award
This award from Robert and Irma Korbitz, both graduates of the University of Wisconsin, is presented to medical students with a strong interest in the field of Family Medicine. This year's recipients are:

  • Joseph Eichenseher - MED 4
  • Surya Pierce - MED 4
  • Jacqueline Redmer - MED 4

Zorba Paster Award
This award is presented in recognition of senior medical students who, in thecourse of their medical school education, developed, implemented or improved health care in a disadvantaged community. Award recipients are:

  • Michelle Buelow - MED 1 - Compassion in Action LOCUS Award
  • Joseph Eichenseher - MED 4 - Compassion in Action - Community Health
  • Cristina Delgadillo - MED 4 - Compassion in Action - International Health

The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine is honored to have presented these awards to these accomplished students and residents.
