Admissions Requirements
Minimum requirements for application to the UW-Madison PA Program – Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS):
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum 3.00 cumulative and science GPA
- Attention will be placed on the last 60 credit hours reflecting a level of academic excellence and/or signs of improvement to 3.00 or higher
- Completion of all prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better. Successful completion of these courses does not guarantee admission to the program. Courses must be equivalent to courses offered at UW-Madison. Prerequisite courses may be in progress/planned for fall or spring semesters at the time of application. All prerequisite courses must be completed successfully with a grade of C or better by the time the program begins in the summer session.

- NOTE: Beginning with the 2011-2012 admissions process, all prerequisites courses must be completed with a C or better by the end of the fall semester.
- No requirement for GRE or standardized graduate admissions exam
- Applicants who have attended universities outside of the U.S. must provide evidence that they are a permanent resident of the United States. We do not consider applicants who have student or other temporary visas.
- Every applicant whose native language is not English, or whose undergraduate instruction was not in English, must provide an English proficiency test score. Your score is considered too old, and will not be accepted, if it is more than 2 years old from the start of your admission term. Students for whom English is a second language must achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper), 237 (computer), 92 (Internet-based) OR 82 (no speaking). TOEFL scores are sent electronically from ETS. Use ETS institution code 1846.
Applicants are exempt if:
- English is the exclusive language of instruction at the undergraduate level; or
- they have earned a degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university not more than 5 years prior to the anticipated semester of enrollment; or
- they have completed at least two full-time semesters of graded course work, exclusive of ESL courses, in a U.S. college or university, or at an institution outside the U.S. where English is the exclusive language of instruction, not more than 5 years prior to the anticipated semester of enrollment.
