Volunteer Opportunities

Please contact us at paprogram@mailplus.wisc.edu for more information about any of these volunteer opportunities.

Shadowing

There are a number of opportunities for alumni to interact with our current students and those who wish to be students. The Program office operates a referral service for pre-PA students who are encouraged to shadow physician assistants in clinical practice so that they may become more familiar with the role of the PA in the health care system. If you are interested in volunteering, or know someone who is, please provide us with the contact information and we will get in touch with more detailed information.

Distance Mentor

The UW Madison PA Program is one of the only PA programs in the country to offer a distance education track. The didactic portion of the program is completed over two years for distance students, and students complete some clinical laboratory skills in or near their home communities during this time frame. PA clinical mentors are needed for the distance students during their didactic training. If you are interested in becoming a mentor for a distance student, or know someone who is, please contact us with the contact information and we will get in touch with more detailed information.

Preceptors

Finally, one well-known opportunity for alumni-student interaction is clinical supervising. New preceptors and preceptorship sites are always needed. Students complete eight-week clinical experiences in family practice, emergency medicine, internal medicine and various surgical specialties. Preceptors are offered volunteer faculty appointments to the UW-Madison Medical School, Department of Family Medicine. Recent graduates who are interested in becoming preceptors should have two years of clinical employment experience. If you are interested in becoming a preceptor, or know someone who is, please provide us with the contact information and we will get in touch with more detailed information.
