Project Study Title: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme I/D Polymorphism in Hispanic Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Its Relationship with Microalbuminuria
Summary of Study: The purpose of this study is to understand how certain genes affect the risk of kidney damage and kidney disease from diabetes and if individuals who are of Hispanic/Latino origin have these genes more or less often than white people not of Hispanic/Latino descent.
Objective: This study wants to find out if people of Hispanic/Latino origin are more likely to have a certain gene that can increase the risk of kidney damage from diabetes than white individuals who are not of Hispanic/Latino descent. Identifying a gene that increases risk of kidney damage may lead to better treatment of individuals at higher risk in the future.
