Project Study Title: Innate Immunity and RSV Infection in Children
Summary of Study: The purpose of this study is to identify factors that may affect how the immune system responds to a common virus, called respiratory synctial virus (RSV).
Objective: Do children with parental history of asthma that carry a certain gene have a less severe iflammatory response during an RSV infection thatn similar children with other genotypes? This is a prospective, longitudional, case-control study.
Study Design: Enrolled Chilren/families will provide consecutive and separate illness nasal washes ( at least one per week) until the nasal sample becomes RSV positive. Once the nasal sample is positive for RSV, the second study visit with a blood draw collection will be scheduled 4-8 weeks later.
