Steve Almasi, MD - ($3,780) "Effect of a Single Injection of Autologous Platelet-rich Plasma for the Treatment of Chronic Patellar Tendinosis; Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes".
The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of a single PRP injection, in patients who have previously received a single injection of PRP for clinical and ultrasound documented chronic PT, on patient reported pain, function, and patellar tendon morphology and vascularity.
Brian Arndt, MD (DFM)/Theresa Guilbert, MD (Pediatrics) - ($4,000) "Defining chronic disease: validating automated electronic medical record selection criteria with manual chart reviews". The goal of this research is to develop standardized electronically searchable definitions of both persistent asthma and type II diabetes mellitus and validate them by comparing electronic search results to a gold standard of manual EMR review.
John Meiman, MD - "Respiratory Illness Seasonality and School Crowding". This study aims to fill an important gap in the infectious disease literature by analyzing the prevalence of respiratory illnesses over several years and assessing whether or not there is a strong correlation with the academic calendar. The research will utilize sophisticated time series modeling that has become the standard in epidemiological research. Discovery of a strong correlation will help to explain an important cause of seasonality and could potentially impact public health efforts to significantly reduce morbidity from viral respiratory illnesses.
Chidi Obasi, MD - ($4,500) "Frequency of bacteria co-infection in participants with acute respiratory infections". This study is designed to evaluate the frequency of detectable pathogenic bacteria in the nasopharynx of participants with ARI illness. This project will also examine the relationship between viral and bacterial detection with symptom severity assessed using the Wisconsin Upper Respiratory Symptom Survey.
Laura Senier MPH, PhD - ($4000) "Barriers and Benefits in the Delivery of Public Health Genetics Programs". This project is designed to explore how state departments of public health are broadening genetics programs, and to identify enabling and constraining factors that shape the design and implementation of these programs.
