Research

With over 40 active grants, the UW Department of Family Medicine (UW-DFM) has one of the largest, most dynamic research programs in the country. In 2007, we had nearly $5 million in external funding, placing us among the top five family medicine departments in the nation.

Our investigators have received national recognition for innovative research and intervention projects in areas such as:

  • Alcohol and substance abuse;
  • Complementary/integrative medicine;
  • Translational research; and
  • Childhood obesity in American Indian populations.

These projects, though diverse, share a common goal: to generate and implement knowledge that transforms the practice of family medicine.

Under the direction of a full-time research director, the UW-DFM offers faculty and researchers numerous academic support services, including grant preparation assistance, biostatistical analysis, and data collection and management.
