The Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians named Dr. William Heifner its 2017 Family Physician of the Year.

Dr. Heifner is the lead physician at the UW Health Clinic in Oregon, and a clinical assistant professor in the UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH).

He has served Oregon for almost 30 years and gives lectures on sexual health to Oregon middle and high school students twice a year. He has also gone to the Dominican Republic on medical missions five times in the last ten years.

One of the reasons Dr. Heifner received the WAFP honor is because he believes family medicine is a lifestyle and loves the opportunities to be involved in the community and to build relationships.

“We have a unique opportunity in family medicine to enter into the lives of patients and to engage with them in both sickness and health. No other specialty can claim that they interact with patients across the life span,” said Dr. Heifner.
