Bio
Mary F. Henningfield, PhD, has a broad range of professional experiences in clinical trials, research programs, medical communications, and patient advocacy. Henningfield’s current role allows conducting research in primary care with the ultimate goals of supporting clinicians and patients to improve health outcomes.
Henningfield especially enjoys creating materials to disseminate research results to lay and professional audiences and to incorporate patient voices into educational materials. Henningfield is also one of the inventors of a patented nutritional product for trauma and surgery patients (US Patent 5 221 668 and World Patent WO 1993 016595).
Research Interests
Henningfield is the executive director of the Wisconsin Research and Education Network (WREN), working on a broad range of practice-based primary care research projects.
Henningfield’s research interests include:
- Rural health
- Cancer screenings in primary care
- Shared decision-making
- Substance use disorders
- Application of health literacy guidelines to patient education materials
