Students Say...

"My preceptors in Eau Claire were outstanding. They all did a good deal of teaching and let me manage patients. One of my preceptors was involved with the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic where I ended up doing a project. It was a great experience. Also, I enjoyed biking and there were lots of easy-to-find places out into the country to go for long bike rides."---Jason Heine

Some of the best things about the Eau Claire program are the satellite clinics which offer a much more rural experience. I really appreciated my experiences in Augusta. The opportunity to do "house-calls" was great. I also appreciated the approach by you and the other faculty with regard to allowing the student to do most of the work-up including the assessment and plan."---Dave Ciske

"I truly enjoyed my time in Eau Claire. What comes to mind first is the great group of residents you have. I felt like they were genuinely dedicated to their patients. Moreover, they always made me feel comfortable and welcome as a student."

"The degree of responsibility was just right. That is, if I needed help it was there but I was free to do as much independently as I wanted. The faculty was of the same spirit. Clinics were busy with a great exposure to a variety of primary care issues but the faculty and residents alike made time for the students. I should also mention that the physicians in Menomonie were of the same fine caliber! One last thing - the free cafeteria food (especially the desserts) was fantastic and the people who work in the hospital cafeteria were amazingly kind!"

"I feel that I had a strong exposure to primary care medicine issues on my PCC rotation."---Melissa Chell

"My preceptor was open to my goals as a student and tailored his approach based on what I wanted to get out of the experience. Overall he took pleasure and interest in interacting with a student, which is a rare quality in an attending physician."

"My preceptor took time to teach me inside and outside of patient room. Didn't just lecture, but actively involved me in decision-making."

"He allowed me to explore my interests during my time on this rotation. If I wanted to research a topic, he would allow me to skip the next patient interview and do a web search. He went out of his way to show me interesting clinical findings. It was refreshing to talk to an instructor about non-medical issues from time to time. It is nice to remind myself that life is not all work."

"Excellent job of allowing me to do physical exam. Excellent teaching - took a lot of time to teach. Thanks for letting me come to c-sections. Thanks for your help."

"Wonderful example of a caring and competent physician. Respectful of me in front of patients and staff."

"My preceptor put a lot of effort into creating learning opportunities, teaching relevant points and giving helpful feedback."

"My preceptor was very engaging and an extremely good role model. A skilled, compassionate clinician. I learned a great deal about patients and the "art" of medical practice from her."

"I felt like a member of the team, not just a passive bystander. An excellent clinic experience."

"My preceptor was very focused on ensuring that I got a lot out of the rotation. She was very informative and spent much of her time teaching me."

"My preceptor encouraged me to explore aspects of medicine whenever possible. Particularly helpful was the way he included me in the discussion of treatments, plans and assessments of nearly every patient. He allowed me to really get my hands wet. He made sure that I got everything that I wanted out of the rotation, especially catering to my individual goals."

"My preceptor demonstrated honest interest in helping me learn. He was very welcoming of having a student in his clinic and slowed me to do anything I was comfortable with and at the same time did not make me feel inadequate if there was something I was unsure of."

"My preceptor really made an effort to make me feel welcome at the clinic and involve me in patient care. He did some great teaching in the midst of a busy clinic and was an excellent role model. His patient workups were exemplary and showed me a great deal about common medical problems."

"Great clinician and teacher. Let me do most everything with patients. but was very good at showing me what I was doing incorrectly. Taught me a great deal about dealing with patients and the medical system as a whole."

"She is one of the best models of professionalism I have encountered and an excellent teacher."
