Tracking Experience Requirements
The UWSMPH has asked each third-year clerkship to identify core experiences for students to track, thus ensuring that all students achieve a minimum of equivalent skills.
You must complete the log, have each skill observed by one or more faculty, and obtain their initials to document that you have received feedback on your performance. Note that we are not necessarily asking your preceptor to verify that you are competent in these areas.
In addition to the paper log, you must also track these experiences on OASIS.
From the list of PCC learning topics, we identified 11 primary care core experiences for you to track on OASIS
Observed History: Acute concern
Observed History: Chronic problem
Observed Physical: Abdominal Exam (Includes detection of HSM, ascites, masses)
Observed Physical: Cardiovascular Exam (Includes cardiac PMI, detect dysrhythmias, perceive S3/S4, describe murmurs including response to maneuvers, palpate peripheral pulses, take BP accurately)
Observed: Interpretation of EKG (Discuss role of EKG and Basic EKG interpretation; rate, rhythm, axis, intervals, hypertrophy, ischemia)
Observed Physical: HEENT Exam (Includes proper (pencil-grip) use of otoscope: distinguish normal/abnl TM; use of ophthalmoscope, distinguish nl/abnl throat findings)
Observed Physical: MSK Exam (Includes IPReSS (as in, ‘When it hurts, IPReSS’!): Inspection, Palpation, ROM (active then passive), Strength, Special Tests. Focus on shoulder/back/knee.)
Observed Physical: GU Exam (Male or female. Inspection, palpation, description of common variants, student appears comfortable)
Observed Physical: Neuro Exam (Includes CN 2-12, Strength, sensation (monofilament), DTRs, gait)
Observed Physical: Psych Exam (Includes Mini-Mental Status, screening for depression)
Communicate plan of care with patient
