Summary
The Wisconsin FASD Treatment Outreach Project (WTOP) provides training, clinical outreach, and technical assistance to Wisconsin's women-specific AODA treatment program staff and ancillary service providers regarding the prevention, identification, and treatment of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders in their client populations.
Goals and Activities
Training: Project staff conduct and evaluate targeted training activities reaching broad audiences in both urban and rural settings in Wisconsin on topics specific to alcohol and drug exposed infants, developmental implications, treatment/intervention recommendations, and providing appropriate accommodations to individuals affected. Long-term evaluation activities are conducted to track practice change.
Clinical Outreach: In partnership with the UW Department of Pediatrics, sponsored on-site and local diagnostic clinics are conducted to assure women and children at risk have access to low- or no-cost diagnostic services.
Technical Assistance and Support: Project staff maintain a toll-free helpline to facilitate ongoing technical assistance and support to women and children at risk and the professionals who serve them.
