Two members of the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health participated in a panel discussion at the Healthy Communities Summit on October 9, 2025. Titled “From Stereotypes to Strategies: Transforming Rural Narratives and Advancing Health,” the panel featured rural health equity coordinator Hazel Behling as a panelist and Associate Dean for Public Health and Community Engagement Jonathan L. Temte, MD, PhD as moderator. Behling and Temte were joined by John Eich, director of the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health and Liz Bush, director of Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers. The panel discussed the challenges of defining “rural” and ideas for countering stereotypes and building the rural health workforce.
