Bio
Shreya Sarmah, MD (she/her/hers) joined DFMCH in 2025 as a resident. Sarmah was inspired by her grandfather, the only family medicine physician in a small town in India. The relationships he built with patients felt magical to Sarmah as a child, as he cared for everyone regardless of caste and emphasized the importance of health care equality.
Her passion for women’s health and the importance of postpartum care grew during her undergraduate research on postpartum mental health. Her research on the effectiveness of comprehensive postpartum visits and paternal postpartum health furthered her interest in family medicine.
Sarmah aims to normalize conversations about women’s health and make it more open, accessible, and culturally competent. She sees the importance of breaking taboos and stigmas so that everyone can feel comfortable discussing their health and seeking the care they deserve.
Outside of medicine, Sarmah enjoys piano, pickleball, paddleboarding, watercolor painting, exploring new restaurants, and walking her dog.
