For Jeremiah Shaw family medicine is a responsibility to deliver equitable care such that health becomes accessible for all. Jeremiah is from Yellow Springs, OH. He earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical science with a minor in integrative health and his medical degree from The Ohio State University. In medical school, Jeremiah chaired the Columbus Free Clinic steering committee which allowed him to advocate beyond basic healthcare for the underserved to addressing deep barriers to health. He completed residency through UW Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health with a focus in Integrative Health. During residency he co-founded the Antiracism Education and Advocacy group (AREA) to educate and promote an antiracist culture within the residency as well as pursue projects with community partners. The group worked to expand voter registration to UW clinics, build antiracism into the residency education structure, and create community health promotion projects. Jeremiah also became certified as an instructor in Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics (ALSO) and completed OMT4MD which began his training in osteopathic manipulation. Integrative health and the comprehensive care of the whole person has been a lifelong pursuit for Jeremiah. He has sought to understand this model from a minor in undergrad, to leading the Students for Integrative Medicine in medical school, to the integrative health track in residency, and now this fellowship. He has sought to care for his colleagues in medicine as well as his patients at every level. To him, the mind, body, and spirit must be in balance to achieve wellness. He hopes to gain more skills and further develop this model for patient care in this fellowship. His medical interests also include community medicine, obstetrics, women’s health, advocacy, antiracism, decolonization, and more. Jeremiah enjoys outdoor activities, running, yoga, hiking, meditation, piano, and anything that keeps him inspired and imaginative.
