The Driving Decisions Lab engages in rigorous participatory research with the goal of supporting primary care teams to leverage cultural humility and shared decision-making to help patients, families, and communities prioritize and navigate what matters most during complex life transitions.

Core questions that guide our research are:

  • How do we measure what matters when caring for people facing complex medical conditions?
  • How can we implement effective programs that make it easier for primary care teams to deliver the right care at the right time?
  • How can we balance standardizing evidence-based care and allowing for variability in personalizing care to individual patients’ needs and contexts?

Currently, our work focuses on supporting patients with dementia and their family and friend care partners navigate the transition of stopping driving through team-based approaches that seek to meet patients where they are at as their dementia progresses.
