Elizabeth Salisbury-Afshar, MD, MPH
Congratulations to Elizabeth Salisbury-Afshar, MD, MPH (Associate Professor, CHS) on presenting at the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) 56th Annual Conference on April 25, 2025 in Denver, Colorado. Salisbury-Afshar’s presentation, “How Low Can You Go? Low Barrier Buprenorphine Care Delivery Models,” shared innovative low barrier care models including the Compass Program walk-in clinic. Salisbury-Afshar is the program’s director.
The Compass Program sees patients with or without insurance who walk in on a first-come, first-served basis. The drop-in style is an advantage for meeting people where they are and providing a health care environment where people with substance use disorders feel welcome and safe.
Salisbury-Afshar provides addiction medicine treatment with over fourteen years of clinical experience in federally qualified health centers. Salisbury-Afshar is core faculty in the UW Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program, serves as program director of the Preventive Medicine Residency, is medical director of the Compass Program, and acts as the medical director of harm reduction services for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Division of Public Health.
