  • Karen Ailsworth M.D. »

    Graduate of: University of New Mexico
    Research and teaching interests:

    Karen Ailsworth, M.D. (Volunteer staffer) graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and completed an MS in biochemistry at the University of New Mexico. Before beginning medical school, Karen bicycled across southern Africa. In 1994, she completed her pediatric residency at the University of New Mexico, where she developed a curriculum for medical students in the first two years of training to work with primary care physicians. Dr. Ailsworth serves as Wisconsin Pediatric liaison to the CDC Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program. She is a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Instructor and has previously authored the chapter on Neonatal Resuscitation for the ALSO ® syllabus. Dr. Ailsworth enjoys spending time with her family and she and her husband are adept at surviving in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota.


  • Ethan Carlson M.D. »

    Research and teaching interests:

    Ethan Carlson, M.D. (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) is a graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Iowa School of Medicine and completed his family practice residency at the Mt. Carmel Family Practice Program in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Carlson is an active participant in the UW Madison Medical School's Generalist Partners Program and frequently hosts medical students who shadow his practice. Dr. Carlson has an active obstetric, clinic, and hospital practice. His medical Interests and procedures include general family medicine, obstetrics, sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, office surgeries, and resident/medical student education.
    Personal Interests: Boating, water skiing, snow skiing, computers, technology and the arts

  • James Damos M.D. »

    Graduate of: St. Louis University
    Research and teaching interests:

    After graduation from residency, James R. Damos, MD, practiced in a rural Wisconsin community where he had an active obstetrics practice and taught Advanced Cardiac Life support to three different hospital staffs in his county.

    In addition to being board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Damos has acquired the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. He is currently the program director of the Baraboo Family Practice Residency Rural Training Track (affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison) and sees his own patients 75% time at Baraboo Medical Associates as an employee of St. Marys/Dean Venture.   • Linda Damos M.A. »

    Graduate of: University of Wisconsin - Madison
    Research and teaching interests:

    Linda Damos, M.A. (Baraboo Residency Education coordinator and Community Medicine Coordinator) is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs. She works in the clinic assisting residents with their educational program, organizes resident evaluations, facilitates meetings, coordinates the recruitment program locally, and assists with program management. In her spare time Linda is on the board of the Sauk County Institute of Leadership and is a Master Gardener.


  • Timothy Deering M.D. »

    Graduate of: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Tennessee
    Research and teaching interests:

    Tim Deering, MD, (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor, Human Behavior and Mental Health Coordinator) is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a 2001 graduate of the UW-Baraboo Family Medicine residency. He returned to Medical Associates Clinic in Baraboo after completing a public health commitment practicing at a migrant health clinic in King City, California for a Health Professions Scholarship obligation. His professional interests are Nutrition, Adolescent Medicine, Residency Education, and Care for the Underserved. Dr. Deering enjoys spending time with his family, bicycling, rowing, prayer, reading and Bible study


  • Cheryl Gehin M.D. »

    Research and teaching interests:

    Cheryl Gehin graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and completed her family practice residency at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2002. Dr. Gehin’s professional interests include Women's health, OB, colposcopy and caring for children. In her spare time Dr Gehin enjoys spending time with her husband and children in out door pursuits. She is an avid runner.

    Cheryl Goeckermann, M.D. (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed her family practice residency at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1998. Dr. Goeckermann volunteered at homeless shelters and free medical clinics during medical school and residency. Dr. Goeckermann's professional interests are preventive medicine, nutrition, women's health, and obstetrics. She also enjoys gardening, camping, cooking and time with her family.

    Christina Hook, M.D. (Volunteer staffer) is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School and a 2007 graduate of the UW-Baraboo Family Medicine residency. Her professional interests are Obstetrics, women's health, pediatrics, and colposcopy. She has co-authored a review article on instrument delivery in American Family Physician. Dr. Hook also enjoys spending time with family, movies, playing the violin, cycling and camping.


  • Teresa King M.D. »

    Research and teaching interests:

    Teresa King, M.D., (volunteer staffer) graduated from Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in 1999. Subsequently, she completed another year at Mayo in an Advanced General Internal Medicine Fellowship, performing research and improving her teaching skills. Dr. King regularly precepts in the Baraboo residency office practice, along with teaching first and second year medical students. The internal medicine rotation in her office and hospital practice has been well received by residents. In her spare time, Dr. King gardens, rides horses and spends time with her husband Brad and three young children.


  • Jamie Kling D.O. »

    Research and teaching interests:

    Jamie Kling, DO, (Care of Women Curriculum, Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) is a 2006 graduate of the UW-Baraboo Family Medicine residency and has chosen to continue as a practicing physician at the Medical Associates Clinic. Dr. Kling graduated from Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center where he tutored physician assistants and medical students. His professional interests are Women's health, coloposcopy, minor office procedures and osteopathic manipulation. Dr. Kling's hobbies are golf, camping, hiking, reading and fishing.

    Randy Krszjzaniek, MD (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) grew up on a farm in central Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1989 and completed his residency at the Mid-Michigan Regional Center at Midland, MI. Dr. Krszjzaniek’s practice interests include obstetrics, colposcopy, geriatrics, and hospice care. Dr. Krszjzaniek serves as course director and instructor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course offered annually by St. Clare Hospital. In his spare time he enjoys traveling with his family and bicycling.

  • James Mathers M.D. »

    James Mathers, M.D. (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School and completed his family practice residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Dr. Mathers is one of the organizers of the Medical Mission to Haiti Project organized by citizens in Sauk County. His professional interests are cardiology, cardiac stress testing, colposcopy, depression, joint injection, obstetrics and gynecology, teaching family practice residents. In his spare time, Dr. Mathers likes skiing, boating, running, tennis, and photography, and traveling.


  • Mark Meier M.D. »

    Graduate of: North Dakota School of Medicine
    Research and teaching interests:

    Mark Meier, M.D. (Surgical Curriculum) graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery residency at UNDSM in 1994. He is board certified in General Surgery. Dr. Meier coordinates and teaches General Surgery to Baraboo and Madison family practice residents. Dr. Meier teaches upper and lower GI endoscopy to Baraboo residents who are interested in learning these skills. Endoscopy training is not for everyone and the program assists residents in identifying which residents may have the technical/educational skills to learn endoscopy. Baraboo residents who pursue endoscopy take the AAFP endoscopy course and most residents log over 100 endoscopies with Dr. Meier before graduation. Dr. Meier also performs local cesarean sections for the family physicians when needed and encourages residents and medical students to be good first assistants.

    Teresa Mendoza, M.D. (Volunteer staffer) job shares with Karen Ailsworth, MD as a Pediatrician with Baraboo Medical Associates. She received her MD degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1992 and completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City in 1995. Dr. Mendoza enjoys the full range of Pediatrics and Pediatric Primary Care.


  • Sharilyn Munneke M.D. »

    Research and teaching interests:

    Sharilyn Munneke, MD (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD on a vocal music scholarship. She is a graduate of the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN and completed her residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. Dr. Munneke has special interests in children's and women's health and is an ALSO ® instructor. She completed a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2007. She job-shares with Dr. Goeckermann to maintain a balance between her professional duties and her time with her husband and two young children. Her hobbies include enjoying the outdoors with her family, hiking and canoeing.


  • Jennifer Orkfritz D.O. »

    Graduate of: Des Moines University, Iowa
    Research and teaching interests:

    Jennifer Orkfritz, DO, (Volunteer Faculty) is a graduate of Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center in 2000 and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Garden City Hospital, in Garden City, MI in 2003. Her professional interests are cardiology, nephrology, women’s health, and hospital medicine. She invites residents to spend time following patients in the office and hospital/ICU with her. Her practice site is in the Wisconsin Dells. Dr. Orkfritz’ personal interests are scuba diving, crocheting, reading suspense/thriller books, biking, hiking, and traveling.

    Dan Trotter, M.D. (Hospital and Clinic Preceptor) graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and attended residency at the St. Francis-Mayo Family Practice residency in LaCrosse, Wisconsin graduating in 1993. Dr. Trotter's is interested in the use of computers in medicine and serves on a Dean/ St. Mary's committee upgrading the use of computerized medical records in local healthcare facilities. He has played a major role in bringing the Epic system of computerized medical records to Baraboo Medical Associates and the residency. This is scheduled to be fully operational by the fall of 2008. Dr. Trotter is an avid runner and enjoys bicycling.
