Bio
Kelly Eagen, MD (she/her) is a family medicine and addiction medicine board-certified physician who is committed to teaching the next generation to be compassionate health care providers caring for people with substance use disorders.
As program director for the addiction medicine fellowship, Eagen believes in developing a fellowship and elective experiences to serve learners across University of Wisconsin residencies and health professional schools.
As a primary care provider and medical director for the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s Medical Respite and Sobering Center, she brings a decade of experience caring for unhoused adults and understands the unique challenges this population faces to obtain equitable and high-quality health care. Eagen was twice awarded the San Francisco Department of Public Health Public Health Hero Award for her commitment to this work.
Clinical Interests
Eagen is interested in addiction medicine in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as providing treatment for hepatitis C, HIV, and pain in the setting of substance use disorders. She has expertise in caring for unhoused individuals as a former Healthcare for the Homeless provider in San Francisco.
Teaching Interests
Eagen’s teaching interests focus on addiction medicine with an emphasis on providing destigmatizing patient-centered care. She believes strongly in educating the breadth of the health care workforce across specialties and disciplines. She has extensive experience building systems and teaching clinicians to expand access to curative hepatitis C treatment.
Scholarly Interests
Eagen’s scholarly interests relate to fellow, resident, and medical/PA student education as well as growing the primary care workforce. She is a member of the PROTEA team focusing on outreach and education.
