Two University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health faculty have been honored with awards from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Mark Beamsley, MD, was recognized for exemplary teaching and Jonathan Temte, MD, PhD, for lifetime achievement.
The Exemplary Teaching Award for Medical Education acknowledges exemplary teaching skills, outstanding education program implementation, and innovative teaching models. Beamsley was cited for sustained and transformative impact that has prepared future physicians for the complexities of community-based family medicine.

Jonathan Temte, MD, PhD
The John G. Walsh Award for Lifetime Contributions to Family Medicine is one of the highest honors awarded by the AAFP and recognizes long-term dedication and leadership that advances family medicine. Temte was honored for advancing family medicine through full-scope clinical care, public health leadership, teaching, and practice-based research.
The AAFP aims to advance the specialty of family medicine, strengthen physicians’ collective voice, and provide solutions to enhance the patient care they provide.
