The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) is proud that over one-third of the 153 UW School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) graduates matched into primary care programs nationwide on March 17, 2023.

They represented over 33 percent of the graduating class. Nearly 10 percent specifically chose family medicine with internal medicine taking top honors with 18 percent.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, family medicine programs filled 4,530 residency positions nationally in 2023—a number that exceeds last year’s record breaking number by 60 positions.

Of the 15 UWSMPH students entering family medicine, four are joining DFMCH sponsored programs in Madison, Baraboo, and Monroe. The DFMCH class of 2026 will also include 17 students from medical schools throughout the country.

We’re excited to meet the new residents in June!
