Congratulations to Elisabeth Salisbury-Afshar, MD, MPH (Associate Professor, CHS) on delivering the opening plenary session at the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) 55th Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas. The presentation, “Broadening Perspectives to Narrow the Treatment Gap,” explored a broader approach to delivering services to people who use substances that combines traditional treatment methods and harm reduction principles.

Salisbury-Afshar was joined by colleagues from the University of Southern California, University of California – San Francisco, University of Miami, and the Behavioral Health Network. She also presented “Housing for People with Substance Use Disorders: Best Practices, Innovations and Gaps” later in the week.

The 2024 ASAM Annual Conference brought approximately 2700 health professionals together to showcase best practices and the latest science, research, and innovations in the field. The American Society of Addiction Medicine’s vision is “a future when addiction prevention, treatment, remission, and recovery are accessible to all and profoundly improve the health of all people.”
