Congratulations to Evan Nelson, DPT, PhD (Associate Professor, CHS) on being selected for the sixth cohort of Morgridge Fellows. Nelson will participate in a year-long learning community designed to further institutionalize and support community-engaged scholarship. As a fellow, Nelson will advance his skills to better incorporate stakeholder community groups in translational science research projects that implement running medicine discoveries made at UW-Madison. Nelson’s work focuses on providing evidence-based guidance for running-related injuries in youth runners.
Community-engaged scholarship (CES) comprises teaching, research, and scholarly activities that are performed in equitable, mutually beneficial collaboration with communities and community members to fulfill campus and community objectives. As part of this program, Morgridge Fellows will develop a more robust understanding of community-engaged scholarship, learn to build and maintain mutually beneficial community-university relationships, learn to plan a sustainable community-based learning course or research project, serve as an ambassador for community-engaged scholarship, and act as a resource for others interested in CES.
