James Bigham, MD, MPH

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Physician Assistant Program selected James Bigham, MD, MPH, as their 2026 Lecturer of the Year. Bigham was nominated and selected by “an overwhelming majority” of the physician assistant program student body. He was recognized at the program’s White Coat Ceremony on June 12, 2026.

Bigham feels that the award reflects the emphasis the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health places on outstanding patient care while being steadfast in its education and community engagement efforts to maintain a culture of exploration and learning.

Bigham is a clinical professor and is actively engage in firearm injury prevention screening and counseling. He co-created a hands-on learning experience for health care professionals called Lock, Stock, and Barrel.

The UW Physician Assistant Program educates health care professionals committed to the delivery of comprehensive, preventive, and therapeutic health care in a patient-centered manner, with an emphasis on primary health care for all populations in need.
