Jeffrey Bastasic MD »
Medical school: Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin-Green Bay,
Jeff was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he was active in the Department of Music and performed with various instrumental ensembles at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. He also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in the First Mentor program. During his undergraduate education and following graduation, he did respiratory physiology research in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. While attending medical school, Jeff was active in the Family Medicine Student Association and participated in Tar Wars, an anti-tobacco education program, and also volunteered at a local elementary school. Additionally, he volunteered at the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured in Milwaukee and was a member of AMA and Physicians for Social Responsibility. Jeff's professional interests include pediatric and adult medicine, preventive care, and mental health. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, piano, French horn, and watching Packer games.

Christina was born and raised in Santa Monica, CA. Her interest in a "people helping" career goes back to her involvement with many service projects and mission trips through her church youth group. At UC Berkeley, her extra-curricular college activities included serving as president of her Christian sorority, being a youth mentor at an Oakland inner-city after-school program, and a missionary trip to Costa Rica. While a medical student in Guadalajara, Mexico she combined her loves of medicine, service and adventure by participating in two medical mission trips to the indigenous state of Chiapas, Mexico. Family medicine has always been her specialty of choice and Christina relates that she feel very happy and privileged to be a part of the UW-Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency. Her special interests include geriatrics, public and international health and serving the Hispanic patient population. In her free time she loves to read the newspaper with a good cup of coffee and exercising outdoors. She is looking forward to exploring all the cultural and recreational activities that the Fox Cities area offers.

Erin was born and raised in City Point, a rural community in central Wisconsin, where she dreamed about being an old-fashioned country doctor. Even though she went to the "big city" of Madison for college and medical school, she remained connected to her rural roots. During medical school, Erin founded a rural health interest group and participated in the Rural Longitudinal Training Track during her clinical years. Her professional interests include obstetrics, adolescent medicine, and hospice care. She plans to practice in a rural Wisconsin community when she finishes her residency. Erin is an active volunteer with the Wisconsin Science Olympiad competition and also enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, outdoor activities, and getting hopelessly lost while traveling.

Undergraduate: Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI
James is from Glenview, Illinois. He attended Andrews University in Michigan and earned a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He completed a Masters in Health Service Administration from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and earned his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine.
His professional interests include hospital administration, urgent care, community outreach, patient education, preventive medicine and procedural medicine. His personal interests are scuba diving, weight-lifting, kayaking, volleyball, German automobiles, and spending time with his wife and large family in Chicago. His professional goal is to open multiple urgent care facilities within the Midwest. His personal goal consists of cage diving with Great White Sharks in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Paul was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and grew up in the area, including Luxemburg, where his family lived and worked on a hobby farm. After high school, Paul worked in a paper converting factory as a machinist for 2 years before attending Miami University. After graduation from Miami, he worked as a pharmacy technician for 2 years as he prepared for entrance into medical school. In medical school, he participated in the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured and Project Remedy, which collected unused medical supplies for 3rd world countries. His medical interests include primary care, preventive medicine, procedures, dermatology, third world medicine and general medicine to become the best physician he can be. Outside of work and school, he enjoys traveling, especially overseas, visiting family and friends, golf, biking, and playing cards. He is an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.

David was raised in Chippewa Falls, a small town in northwestern Wisconsin. While in medical school, he was actively involved in many committees and was the representative of the Class of 2007.
He received several awards, including the Charles Russell Bardeen, Founding Dean, Fourth Year Student Award, given to the 4th-year medical student who possesses the best attributes of a physician. David also served as coordinator of the Dean's Cup annual competition and fund-raiser at UW-Madison between the medical and law schools, coordinating over 30 competitive events, including a blood drive and a food drive. Outside of medicine, David enjoys photography, woodworking, and spending time outdoors.

Undergraduate: University of Rochester
Belis was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Having attended boarding school in Easthampton, Massachusetts, and an international school in Istanbul, she learned at an early age to focus on the similarities between people rather than the differences. At the University of Rochester, Belis majored in Health and Society and graduated with Distinction. Her minors in Biology and Spanish proved useful during her first two years of medical school in Mexico. Working in clinics in impoverished neighborhoods of Guadalajara provided Belis with a unique view of healthcare delivery in underdeveloped settings and prompted her to gain further training in global health and health policy.
Upon graduating from Ross University School of Medicine with Highest Honors, Belis joined the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her thesis to obtain a Master of Public Health degree was accepted for presentation at the 135th American Public Health Association conference held in Washington, D.C. in 2007. Belis is looking forward to her family medicine training at the Fox Valley program surrounded by Appleton’s small-town charm and to being part of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, well-known for global and community health research opportunities.

Graduate: Columbia College, Chicago
Undergraduate: Dominican University, River Forest
David grew up in parts of Africa and spent many years in Midwest. He considers Chicago his adopted home. He has received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. While in medical school he taught students in grades K-12 on various subjects, and worked as a licensed Pharmacy Technician, certified EMT, and LRC Help desk. He is the recipient of the following scholarship awards: American Academy of Dermatology, Finch University Research Fellowship, Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, and the National Health Service Corps. David was also the president of the SNMA club and Vice President: for AMSA, EMED, AMA, and Family Medicine student interest groups.
He has chosen to specialize in family medicine and complete his residency training in UW Fox Valley for several reasons: the variety of day-to-day interactions as well as the diverse environments in which to practice, such as rural, urban and suburban, which provide a degree of excitement and satisfaction unmatched by any other specialty and training. He is particularly interested in sports and emergency medicine. His professional goal is to work for Armed forces or work inpatient setting in small community hospital.
His hobbies include film, sports, and world history. In the future David hopes to join hands with Doctors without Borders and coordinate medical missions to medically undeserved areas of the world.

Undergraduate: Duke University
Finicia was born and raised in Milwaukee and attended Duke University to branch out and get a taste of a new environment. While there she double-majored in Biology and Spanish and had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain for a summer. She returned to Wisconsin after graduation to decide in which area of health care to pursue her career. After working for several years as a medical assistant at Family House Clinic, a small facility in Milwaukee's inner city, she decided that becoming a physician was the right choice for her. She then moved to Illinois for medical school and continued her commitment to working with underserved populations. She regularly volunteered at CommunityHealth, where UIC staffs a Student Run Free Clinic. She also participated in many community service projects coordinated by SNMA and held an executive position with the group.
Her professional interests include women's health, obstetrics, adolescent medicine, and working with communities in need. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading, and just hanging out in the sunshine. Although she loves Chicago, Finicia is happy to be returning to her home state of Wisconsin.

Kathryn was born and raised in Green Bay, WI. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing degrees in English and Biology. She also volunteered as a mentor through the Campus Girl Scouts program, promoting literacy through a community reading partner program, and raising awareness about AIDS through her work with various campus organizations. She was very involved with the Student Leadership Program and was named Student leader of the Year for 2004 for her work in developing leadership and communication training programs for undergraduate students.
During Medical School at the University of Wisconsin, she realized she has a passion for patient stories and an enthusiasm for the benefits of longitudinal patient care that paralleled with the opportunities offered by a career in family medicine. Amidst her studies she found time to co-chair Women in Medicine, to serve as a class representative in the medical school student government, and to marry her high school sweetheart, Kevin.
Her professional interests include pediatric and adult medicine, hospice care, preventive care, and obstetrics. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, camping, scrapbooking, gardening, undertaking renovation projects with her husband Kevin, and curling up with a good book or movie and a cup of hot tea when time permits. She is excited to be returning to Northeast Wisconsin to continue her training at the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program.

Medical school: Pomorska Akademia Medyczna, Poland
Marcin was born and raised in Poland where he graduated from Pomeranian Medical School and completed two and half years of orthopedic residency. He worked in the Emergency Department and volunteered as an EMT in Szczecin, Poland. After relocating to the United States, he focused on bone cancer research at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In 2007 he began his Integrated General Surgery Residency Program at the same university.
Marcin’s professional interests include Sport Medicine and Athletic Training. He enjoys spending time with his spouse and two children as well as playing soccer and camping. He is looking forward to the opportunities the Fox Valley Family Medicine Program will offer him, and is excited about giving back to the community in Appleton and establishing long term roots here.

Jenny is from Brookfield, Wisconsin. While in medical school, she participated in several student groups and had leadership roles in the Family Medicine Student Association and Christian Medical Association. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Her interest in rural family medicine began the summer after her first year of medical school when she did a family medicine externship in a small Wisconsin town. Her professional interests include full-scope family medicine, rural medicine, obstetrics and pediatrics.
She enjoys running, biking, playing the violin, spending time with family and friends and playing a good game of fetch with the family dachshund. Jenny is excited to train at the Fox Valley program and feels it will provide many opportunities to gain experience in her areas of interest. She hopes to remain in Wisconsin to practice family medicine after residency.

Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin - Madison
Tiffany was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin and is thrilled to return home to complete her training in family medicine. Her professional interests include preventative medicine, women’s health, obstetrics and pediatrics. In medical school, Tiffany was involved in many clubs and activities including the Student Osteopathic Medical Association, in which she organized annual wine tastings, blood drives, and volunteered as an anatomy teaching assistant for the local community college. She also organized the annual bowl-a-thon to raise money for the Talia Seidman Foundation to benefit sick children. Her favorite activity was volunteering for the Give Kids the World Village in Orlando, FL, helping terminally ill children and their families enjoy a free vacation to Disney World. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and her two golden retrievers, outdoor activities and watching romantic comedies. She is an avid Packers, Brewers, and Badgers fan and goes to games whenever she has the chance. Tiffany plans to practice in Wisconsin after residency.

Lachin was born and raised in Tabriz, a metropolitan city in northwest Iran. She attended Tabriz University of Medical Sciences after high school. During medical school she often volunteered in rural communities helping the indigent population. During the last year of medical school she had the opportunity to provide primary care and family planning to young mothers and families in rural areas. After graduation, she moved to Appleton, WI and decided to pursue her career in medicine. In the Fox Cities area, she has worked with a number of independent physicians and has volunteered in community clinics. Her professional interests include preventive medicine, women’s health, procedures, and medical care for underserved population. She enjoys spending time with her husband, reading, listening to international music, and playing backgammon during family get-togethers. She also likes cross-country skiing and biking, especially in beautiful Door County. She is interested in practicing Family Medicine in the Fox Valley after finishing residency.

Elizabeth was born in Milwaukee and has lived in various places in Wisconsin her whole life. She attended college at UW-River Falls where she met her husband Peter. After graduating from college she worked for a year at 3M's Pharmaceutical Division. Having a passionate interest in Christian medical ethics, she started Medical Students for Life and was active in the Catholic Medical Students Association during medical school. She is also a member of the Catholic Medical Association. As leader of Medical Students for Life, she helped organize fundraisers for the local crisis pregnancy centers, as well as several other events. Her professional interests include becoming a well rounded family medicine physician with a focus in obstetrics, women's health, and Natural Family Planning. So far, Elizabeth and her spouse have three children. Together they enjoy spending time outdoors camping, fishing and gardening. She is excited to be living in the Fox Valley and is looking forward to becoming active in the community.

Beth grew up in Shawano, Wisconsin, a small lakeside town about 40 miles north of Appleton and is thrilled to return to the area. During Beth’s undergraduate career, she developed Muir Woods Mentors, a group of college students mentoring elementary students from a low-income neighborhood and teaching them hands-on science in the campus natural areas. Beth also spent time in rural India serving a free clinic and learning about traditional medicine techniques. At Mayo Medical School, Beth enjoyed leading Mayo’s Family Medicine Interest Group and teaching local students about health-related topics with Mayo Outreach to Students and Teachers. She also surprised herself with a new-found passion for medical policy and advocacy through her roles with the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians and American Academy of Family Physicians. Beth enjoys spending time with her spouse, Matt, especially cheering for the Packers and Badgers. Beth also loves playing volleyball and spending time outdoors.

James was born in Japan and raised in New York, Massachusetts, and Oregon. From an early age, James has been passionate about improving his Japanese and learning new languages. As a high school student, James won first place in the Level II National Spanish Examination in the State of Oregon. At the University of California, Berkeley, James learned fluent German and spent his Junior year abroad at the University of Goettingen in Germany, majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Genetics and Development. Drawn to the vibrant biotech industry in the Bay Area, James joined Bayer Biological Products in Berkeley and worked in the Fermentation Department for almost three years, helping ferment recombinant baby hamster kidney cells and isolate Factor VIII protein for Hemophilia A patients. In medical school, James explored the role of faith and humanism in medicine as President of the Christian Medical Association, inviting physicians from as far away as Kenya to share their struggles to practice ethical medicine in diverse clinical situations. James also enjoyed refining his medical Spanish working and volunteering at Cook County Hospital and the community health clinics. His special interests include public and international health, preventive medicine, and medical ethics. In his free time, James loves playing the piano, online chess, Chinese calligraphy, blogging, and running. He looks forward to skiing the Wisconsin slopes in the Winter.

Undergraduate: Brooklyn College, NY
Michael was born and raised in the Big Apple, New York City. Upon graduation from Brooklyn College, he moved to South Carolina to attend Sherman College of Chiropractic. There, he met and married his wife, Teresa, who is also a chiropractor. Michael graduated Magna Cum laude, and established a chiropractic practice in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina. He was voted the “Chiropractor of the Year in 1997”, and served on the Board of Regents for both his undergraduate and chiropractic colleges. After practicing for eleven years, he decided to further his education as a medical physician. During Medical School, Michael volunteered at the Coastal Rescue Mission, providing food and basic medical needs to lower income and elderly citizens of South Carolina. Michael’s primary fields of interest in Family Medicine include geriatrics, sports medicine, and urgent care. Michael, his wife, and two daughters enjoy winter sports, and he is a member of the National Ski Patrol. He is excited about his move to Appleton, and is looking forward to becoming an active member of this beautiful community.
