Merici Awe M.D. »
Medical school: University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
Undergraduate: Edgewood College, Madison
Merici was born and raised in Markesan, a rural farming town in south central Wisconsin. Her professional interests include preventative health and geriatrics and she hopes to practice in a rural setting after residency. During medical school, Merici volunteered at the Community Health Network, MEDIC a student-run organization providing healthcare to the underserved, and the MoMS organization (Mothers and Maternal Support). Since high school until the present, Merici volunteers as an EMT in Southern Green Lake County. Merici did her third year Primary Care Clerkship at the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. Merici enjoys spending time with her spouse, Danny, and their golden retriever, Abigail. Together, they like outdoor activities including backpacking, camping, kayaking, and downhill skiing.

Jessie was born and raised in Green Bay, WI. To help fund her education she has worked as a robot welder, sandblaster, paper machine technician and forklift driver! During college, her many volunteer activities included a mission trip to Jamaica to help build houses. Jessie deferred entry to medical school for one year in order to spend a year with Americorps/Cap Core as a health educator and coordinator for St. Ben's Clinic in Milwaukee. One of her volunteer activities during medical school was with the MEDIC program. Jessie did her third year Primary Care Clerkship and her fourth year Family Medicine elective with the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, doing anything outdoors and watching Chevy Chase movies. Her professional interests include preventative health, obstetrics and sports medicine.

Medical school: Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin
Jeremy grew up on a dairy farm in New Franken, WI, a small town east of Green Bay. His spouse, Karen, is also from northeast Wisconsin and is employed by St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Jeremy and Karen enjoy spending time with their yellow lab, Heatley, as well as outdoor activities, playing games, and watching sports and movies. During Medical School, Jeremy was a member of AMA, served as a volunteer for the Friendship Clinic, a student run clinic for the uninsured, was on the leadership board of the Family Medicine Interest Group and was the fundraising chair for AMSA. Jeremy did a fourth year Family Medicine elective at the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. Jeremy and Karen are excited to be back in Wisconsin and to experience everything the Fox Valley has to offer.

Medical school: Des Moines University - Osteopathic Medical Center
Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin - La Crosse
Appleton is Wendy's hometown and she is very excited to begin giving back to the community in which she was raised. Growing up on a dairy farm helped spark her interest in medicine and through her undergraduate training as an athletic trainer, she became interested in osteopathic medicine. During college, Wendy interned in athletic training with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers minor league baseball team and also at Bellin Sports Medicine. During medical school Wendy was involved in a number of service activities. These include the Osteopathic Finish Line which staffs treatment tents at local running events and the Literacy Army that helps students with reading difficulties. In addition, she assisted faculty members in performing free physical exams for elementary school students. Wendy's professional interests include Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Athletic Training and Community Medicine. She is an avid Packer fan and enjoys volleyball, camping, fishing, and hunting, reading mystery novels and spending time with her dog, Kobe.
Leslie Strickland M.D. »
Medical school: Texas A&M University College of Medicine
Undergraduate: University of Texas at Austin
Leslie was raised in San Antonio, Texas, and has been working her way north on I-35 ever since. She is excited to be getting out of the Texas heat and taking advantage of all the winter sports available in Wisconsin. Her professional interests include women's health, preventive health, and palliative care. Leslie has a long time interest in community service on a global perspective and was selected by her medical school as a senior member to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. The society recognizes student physicians who display the essential qualities of an excellent physician. Prior to medical school, Leslie volunteered at the AIDS Hospice in Austin. She also spent six months at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, to study Arabic language. After college, Leslie spent 2 1/2 years with the Peace Corps in Chad, Africa. While in medical school she volunteered with (STAT) Stand Tall Against Tobacco, served as board member and co-director of the student-run free clinic and developed a group known as Empower which helps promote diversity and cultural competence.

Medical school: Medical College of Virginia
Undergraduate: Colorado School of Mines
Drew grew up in Long Island, NY, northern Virginia and Michigan. After working as a chemical engineer for 10 years, most recently in the Virgin Islands, he began medical school to pursue his lifelong dream of being a physician. At the Medical College of Virginia, Drew was awarded a four year scholarship from the National Health Service Corp to attend medical school. He was also awarded the 2004 Dean's Scholarship for outstanding leadership and community service and was elected to serve as the Virginia state delegate to the national AAFP conference in Kansas City in 2005. He also was the VCU student delegate to the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. Drew's primary fields of interest in Family Medicine include access for the underserved, integrative medicine, procedures in a Family Medicine setting, new models of efficient practice management and medical ethics. Drew enjoys long distance running and triathlons, snowboarding, and the martial arts (earning a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in February of 2006).

Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin-Green Bay,
Jeff was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he was active in the Department of Music and performed with various instrumental ensembles at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. He also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in the First Mentor program. During his undergraduate education and following graduation, he did respiratory physiology research in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. While attending medical school, Jeff was active in the Family Medicine Student Association and participated in Tar Wars, an anti-tobacco education program, and also volunteered at a local elementary school. Additionally, he volunteered at the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured in Milwaukee and was a member of AMA and Physicians for Social Responsibility. Jeff's professional interests include pediatric and adult medicine, preventive care, and mental health. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, piano, French horn, and watching Packer games.

Undergraduate: University of California, Berkeley
Christina was born and raised in Santa Monica, CA. Her interest in a "people helping" career goes back to her involvement with many service projects and mission trips through her church youth group. At UC Berkeley, her extra-curricular college activities included serving as president of her Christian sorority, being a youth mentor at an Oakland inner-city after-school program, and a missionary trip to Costa Rica. While a medical student in Guadalajara, Mexico she combined her loves of medicine, service and adventure by participating in two medical mission trips to the indigenous state of Chiapas, Mexico. Family medicine has always been her specialty of choice and Christina relates that she feel very happy and privileged to be a part of the UW-Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency. Her special interests include geriatrics, public and international health and serving the Hispanic patient population. In her free time she loves to read the newspaper with a good cup of coffee and exercising outdoors. She is looking forward to exploring all the cultural and recreational activities that the Fox Cities area offers.

Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin, Madison
Erin was born and raised in City Point, a rural community in central Wisconsin, where she dreamed about being an old-fashioned country doctor. Even though she went to the "big city" of Madison for college and medical school, she remained connected to her rural roots. During medical school, Erin founded a rural health interest group and participated in the Rural Longitudinal Training Track during her clinical years. Her professional interests include obstetrics, adolescent medicine, and hospice care. She plans to practice in a rural Wisconsin community when she finishes her residency. Erin is an active volunteer with the Wisconsin Science Olympiad competition and also enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, outdoor activities, and getting hopelessly lost while traveling.

Undergraduate: Miami University
Paul was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and grew up in the area, including Luxemburg, where his family lived and worked on a hobby farm. After high school, Paul worked in a paper converting factory as a machinist for 2 years before attending Miami University. After graduation from Miami, he worked as a pharmacy technician for 2 years as he prepared for entrance into medical school. In medical school, he participated in the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured and Project Remedy, which collected unused medical supplies for 3rd world countries. His medical interests include primary care, preventive medicine, procedures, dermatology, third world medicine and general medicine to become the best physician he can be. Outside of work and school, he enjoys traveling, especially overseas, visiting family and friends, golf, biking, and playing cards. He is an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin - Madison
David was raised in Chippewa Falls, a small town in northwestern Wisconsin. While in medical school, he was actively involved in many committees and was the representative of the Class of 2007.
He received several awards, including the Charles Russell Bardeen, Founding Dean, Fourth Year Student Award, given to the 4th-year medical student who possesses the best attributes of a physician. David also served as coordinator of the Dean's Cup annual competition and fund-raiser at UW-Madison between the medical and law schools, coordinating over 30 competitive events, including a blood drive and a food drive. Outside of medicine, David enjoys photography, woodworking, and spending time outdoors.

Medical school: Ross University, Dominica
Undergraduate: University of Rochester
Belis was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Having attended boarding school in Easthampton, Massachusetts, and an international school in Istanbul, she learned at an early age to focus on the similarities between people rather than the differences. At the University of Rochester, Belis majored in Health and Society and graduated with Distinction. Her minors in Biology and Spanish proved useful during her first two years of medical school in Mexico. Working in clinics in impoverished neighborhoods of Guadalajara provided Belis with a unique view of healthcare delivery in underdeveloped settings and prompted her to gain further training in global health and health policy.
Upon graduating from Ross University School of Medicine with Highest Honors, Belis joined the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her thesis to obtain a Master of Public Health degree was accepted for presentation at the 135th American Public Health Association conference held in Washington, D.C. in 2007. Belis is looking forward to her family medicine training at the Fox Valley program surrounded by Appleton’s small-town charm and to being part of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, well-known for global and community health research opportunities.

Medical school: Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Iran & New York Medical College - Fifth Pathway, Valhalla, NY
After completing medical school in the Middle East, Manijeh practiced medicine in an underserved area and then used her experience to serve her community while working in a war zone. After relocating to the United States, Manijeh gained knowledge of United States health systems and diverse socio-economic and cultural populations by completing hospital rotations in different parts of the country, including a one year rotation at New York Medical College.
Manijeh has a strong desire to provide primary care for underserved populations because of her roots and background. Her professional interests include women’s health, preventive health, sports medicine and working internationally, especially in Africa. Manijeh has a daughter to whom she devotes her spare time and she also loves to travel.
Finicia Graham M.D. »
Medical school: Chicago College of Medicine
Undergraduate: Duke University
Finicia was born and raised in Milwaukee and attended Duke University to branch out and get a taste of a new environment. While there she double-majored in Biology and Spanish and had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain for a summer. She returned to Wisconsin after graduation to decide in which area of health care to pursue her career. After working for several years as a medical assistant at Family House Clinic, a small facility in Milwaukee's inner city, she decided that becoming a physician was the right choice for her. She then moved to Illinois for medical school and continued her commitment to working with underserved populations. She regularly volunteered at CommunityHealth, where UIC staffs a Student Run Free Clinic. She also participated in many community service projects coordinated by SNMA and held an executive position with the group.
Her professional interests include women's health, obstetrics, adolescent medicine, and working with communities in need. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading, and just hanging out in the sunshine. Although she loves Chicago, Finicia is happy to be returning to her home state of Wisconsin.

Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin - Madison
Kathryn was born and raised in Green Bay, WI. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing degrees in English and Biology. She also volunteered as a mentor through the Campus Girl Scouts program, promoting literacy through a community reading partner program, and raising awareness about AIDS through her work with various campus organizations. She was very involved with the Student Leadership Program and was named Student leader of the Year for 2004 for her work in developing leadership and communication training programs for undergraduate students.
During Medical School at the University of Wisconsin, she realized she has a passion for patient stories and an enthusiasm for the benefits of longitudinal patient care that paralleled with the opportunities offered by a career in family medicine. Amidst her studies she found time to co-chair Women in Medicine, to serve as a class representative in the medical school student government, and to marry her high school sweetheart, Kevin.
Her professional interests include pediatric and adult medicine, hospice care, preventive care, and obstetrics. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, camping, scrapbooking, gardening, undertaking renovation projects with her husband Kevin, and curling up with a good book or movie and a cup of hot tea when time permits. She is excited to be returning to Northeast Wisconsin to continue her training at the Fox Valley Family Medicine Residency Program.
Marcin Jaremko M.D. »
Medical school: Pomorska Akademia Medyczna, Poland
Marcin was born and raised in Poland where he graduated from Pomeranian Medical School and completed two and half years of orthopedic residency. He worked in the Emergency Department and volunteered as an EMT in Szczecin, Poland. After relocating to the United States, he focused on bone cancer research at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In 2007 he began his Integrated General Surgery Residency Program at the same university.
Marcin’s professional interests include Sport Medicine and Athletic Training. He enjoys spending time with his spouse and two children as well as playing soccer and camping. He is looking forward to the opportunities the Fox Valley Family Medicine Program will offer him, and is excited about giving back to the community in Appleton and establishing long term roots here.

Undergraduate: Carroll College, Waukesha, WI
Jenny is from Brookfield, Wisconsin. While in medical school, she participated in several student groups and had leadership roles in the Family Medicine Student Association and Christian Medical Association. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Her interest in rural family medicine began the summer after her first year of medical school when she did a family medicine externship in a small Wisconsin town. Her professional interests include full-scope family medicine, rural medicine, obstetrics and pediatrics.
She enjoys running, biking, playing the violin, spending time with family and friends and playing a good game of fetch with the family dachshund. Jenny is excited to train at the Fox Valley program and feels it will provide many opportunities to gain experience in her areas of interest. She hopes to remain in Wisconsin to practice family medicine after residency.
