Alyssa Shell Tilhou joins the Addiction Medicine Fellowship with the goal of advancing access to comprehensive services and improved health outcomes for patients struggling with substance use disorders. Dr. Tilhou completed her family medicine residency training with the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She received her AB from Harvard University and her MD and PhD in population health sciences from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Her dissertation focused on the relationship between neighborhood ethnic density and mental health in Latino populations. Her research areas have included health disparities, neighborhood effects, primary care expansion and the impact of the Affordable Care Act on patient access and outcomes. She has conducted research with the American Board of Family Medicine, Oregon Health and Sciences University and the Robert Graham Center in Washington, DC. Most recently, she practiced as a traditional family physician performing inpatient, outpatient and obstetrical care in a rural community in southwest Wisconsin.
